Sharnam Sewa Samiti
Sharnam Sewa Samiti is a Lucknow based non political, secular and non-profitable organisation registered in 1997-98 under Section 21 of the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It is a group of socially responsible people, from various sections of the society, who are committed to community development.
Programmes
Extended Support Programme
The programme had been initiated as a self sustaining model based on the concept of service at doorstep. The organisation provides skilled attendant services to the vulnerable families where the elderly due to age or ailment are unable to perform their day-to-day activities and thus require round the clock professional care and support. The programme is novel in the sense that on one hand it provides care and support to the elderly and at the same time it also provides employment opportunities to those who are willing to serve as an attendant committed to the cause of the elderly.
Family Planning and Population Awareness Programme
Each year, July 11 is celebrated as the World Population Day to reaffirm the faith on the people and acknowledge their right to plan their families.
Adolescent Health Education Programme
SSS, in partnership with its sister concern SCS has initiated a series of efforts, which aim at imparting menstrual health and hygiene education to adolescent girls.
AIDS and Polio Awareness Campaign
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are two top most polio affected states. Eradicating polio is not vaccination, but requires change in community behaviour to succeed.
Environment Education and Awareness Generation
The organisation is undertaking several initiatives to protect the fast depleting natural resources through mass awareness campaigns with the involvement of children in various quiz, debates and street plays to highlight the importance of environment on our existence and therefore the underlying responsibility of the people to safeguard this resource.
Women Welfare Programme
SSS is celebrating the Women's Day every year since 2006 by organising rallies, seminars, workshops and debates. It promotes best practices that help in creating equal status for women in the society and focuses on women empowerment.
Stakeholder Consultation
The organisation has been instrumental in conducting stakeholder consultation, which is done to assess the environmental and social aspects of the Hydro, Thermal and Wind power projects.
Workshops and Conferences
Sharnam organises workshops and conferences at two levels: community level and beyond community level. Events at the community level help in gauging the interventions, whereas those at other level help in arranging resources for them.
Volunteer for Us
Anyone can volunteer for Sharnam. It is indeed immaterial if a prospective volunteer is a student, a teacher, a professional, a social scientist, or a housewife. Education or degree of prospective volunteer is also immaterial. What matters is the presence of the spirit of volunteerism in the person.
